Unlocking the "Mystery" of Successful Subscriptions: An Introduction to the Industry's Best Practices, Per My 18 Years Experience...
Hello there, fellow subscription-first entrepreneur!
This week, our first in fact, we're diving deep into the concept of subscription business success, unlocking some basic tacts we can all use in our businesses today to create a more engaged, fervent subscriber list.
We'll be exploring industry best practices that have proven to be game-changers.
The Power of Personalization
Personalization is the key to winning subscribers' hearts. Tailoring content (physical or virtual) to individual preferences makes subscribers feel valued and understood. Even if it's what we call "PERCEIVED customization", it's a powerful tool to allow your subscribers to feel that you care and that your product line is tailored to their uniqueness.
It's not just about knowing their names, but understanding their needs and interests, right? Then they feel listened to (and we all have an ego that needs stroked).
I recommend using a survey tool, whether it's Google Forms, Survey Monkey, Typeform, or an inbuilt survey tool like Subbly offer. Ask people specific things that are related to their passion for your product type.
For example, in our watch clubs, we ask users to lay out their preferred sizes, colors, brands, materials and styles of watches, as well as "dealbreakers" in the things they don't want to see, so we can avoid those when hand-picking their watches. This lets them know we care and are listening.
Consistent Value Delivery
Consistency is the backbone of successful subscriptions, because that is what people rely upon for their coming back every time. Subscribers expect regular, valuable content that meets their needs. It's essential to maintain a consistent schedule and deliver high-quality content. How do you ensure consistency in your subscriptions? Any tips for our community?
I'd recommend elements in any subscription business such as a VIP program that delivers engagement via content, whether a membership perk, or a paid supplemental subscription. Or a fun live stream feature. Or a newsletter. Whatever works for your unique product style and niche, try out some ideas and see what the community responds best to.
In our watch club, the best examples of this that got people absolutely chomping at the bit to be in contact with our brand, was hosting monthly flash sales, weekly auctions, community polls on what people wanted to see from our brand - just a few examples.
Engaging Subscriber Community
Building a community around your subscription can boost engagement significantly. Encouraging interactions among subscribers fosters a sense of belonging, making them more likely to stick around - it's that idea that I always hold in reverence... if you can create a MOVEMENT around your brand, you're onto a winner, GUAR-AN-DAMN-TEED.
So, how have you fostered (or considered fostering) community in your subscription business? We'd love to hear your experiences and suggestions!
Again in my unique instance, we used a trading group to bring a larger volume of folks in, to buy/sell/trade their products. Then we offered them features and sometimes even offered only-paid-member features to entice others to join the paid plans for those superior perks.
Unlocking the Power of Mystery: Elevate Your Subscription Business
In the dynamic world of subscription-based entrepreneurship, especially within the "BOX" sector (which I know a lot of you will be using as a model for your biz), standing out is not just an optionā€”it's a necessity, for initial success and scaling as well as longevity.
The key to captivating your audience and ensuring your brand remains unforgettable lies in the art of creating anticipation. Imagine integrating elements of mystery into your offerings, transforming each interaction into an engaging experience.
Whether it's through mystery items in each delivery, the thrilling possibility of a surprise upgrade, or an entire mystery experience that keeps subscribers guessing, these strategies can significantly enhance the value of your service. By weaving in these unexpected delights, your business can not only increase retention rates but also spark a buzz that draws new subscribers in and creates what is the "ideal" in the subscription industry - and please keep this at the forefront of your decisions - a MOVEMENT around your brand makes all the difference in the world to your longevity and prospect of lasting, especially if you're in a competitive niche.
After all, who can resist the allure of a good mystery? Incorporating these elements not only sets your business apart but also redefines the subscription model, making every moment a journey of discovery for your customers.
That's all for this week, folks! Keep exploring, keep sharing, and most importantly, keep growing. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and suggestions. Until next time, Alex.
